Conditions

Is it worth going?

Tide, current, vis and water quality, worked out for the spot you're going to, not the nearest port.

Tides

Depth now, not at chart datum

Charts give depths at the lowest tide. Aspetto adds today's tide, so a spot charted at 4.5 m reads as about 8.5 m at high water. You see it on the map, on each spot and on the watch.

The tide model is good to about ±0.3–0.5 m, so treat it as a guide.

Visibility

A vis estimate that says how sure it is

Aspetto estimates the vis at each spot for the next 3 days, as a range with its confidence and the reasons: swell, wind, rain, river flow, satellite water clarity and the type of seabed.

Log the vis after each session (on the watch, it's one turn of the crown) and the estimate learns your spots. Until there are enough logs, confidence is capped at 50%.

It's an estimate, and new. On its first test it was within one band (for example "poor" or "OK") everywhere, and spot on for 2 of 5 sides of Looe Island.

Water quality

Sewage alerts

Aspetto reads the water companies' live storm overflow data and warns you when an outlet near your spot is discharging or has in the last 72 hours, and whether the tide is setting towards you. Turn on alerts and you'll get a notification on your phone or in your browser for your spots and planned dives.

England only, for now.

A clear notice doesn't mean the water is clean. Not every outlet is monitored, and rain washes in pollution from other sources too.
